Ampa Skywalk Mall
As I was visiting Tata Star Bazaar I also went around Ampa Mall as this was my first visit here. I went visited after all the initial hype settled and hence could be able to see more stores being opened but still very many yet to open their shops and still work going on, on many.
Firstly I will talk about parking lot. The parking of this mall was located in basement, even below the Tata Star Bazaar which in fact turns out to be the actual basement of the mall. This I guess is a two tier basement parking with cars on the first and two wheelers next below it. I felt the parking charges to be slightly higher when compared with other shopping malls like Spencer’s, Citi Centre, Alsa Mall, etc. This is a first set back I had to face here at Ampa Skywalk Mall. Anyway, the parking looked very spacious to accommodate 1200 cars and 500 motor bikes. While at the entrance they will issue the ticket and you will need to pay only while exiting.
It is said to be 8 floors but only 3 floors were developed till now and even in them most of the shops were closed including Landmark and many. On the looks it looked like a small mall when compared with Spencer’s Plaza. It will be worth to see how it will be like when the entire mall is open for public which I guess is soon going to happen.
They have the entire 3rd floor dedicated for food courts like Hot Chips, Just Parathas, Milky Way, Wangs Kitchen, La Boulangerie, etc. While all the eateries are located around the tables are chairs are kept on the whole floor in order so that we can buy from any outlet and sit at any table on the floor and thus making the options wide open to choose. Apart from that the other eatouts are located throughout the mall like McDonalds which is located on the front end of the mall while other eatouts like Cookie man, Jus Booster Juice on various floors of the mall.
On the second floor they have various other stores including Biba, Benetton Kids, Health and Glow, Naturals, Soles, etc. On the first floor they have stores like Reebok, Peter England, Allen Solly, Adidas, Mochi, Bossini, Laptop Plus, Lee, Bossini, etc. On the ground floor Hidesign, United Colors of Benetton, Giordano, Hush Puppies, Titan, Levi’s, etc. With more shops yet to open like Rado, Apple iMagine, Satya Paul, Bose, Chemmannur Jewellery, Zimson, SOCH, etc. The entire basement is dedicated to Tata Star Bazaar.
I am waiting for the PVR Cinemas to open their movie screens here which I heard is said to be February 8, 2010. This is going to be one good movie experience for all Chennaites after the Sathyam Cinemas and Inox multiplex, now PVR Cinemas at Ampa Skywalk Mall could change the way Chennaites watch movies. It is said to be having 7 screens with around 1800 seated multiplex movie hall. This surely is a great addition to the entertainment option for Chennai. Also Auromatrix hotels, which is a boutique hotel with 20 rooms, too is coming up in Ampa Mall.
Overall, my experience at Ampa Mall is neutral and nothing could be compared with my first visit to Spencer’s Plaza really many years ago. Although still so many stores yet to open, it would be bustling with activities at least at the end of 2010, I guess.
